Blues rockers Fraternity of Man formed in Los Angeles at the start of the 1960s and hit their stride with their 1968 breakthrough single "Don't Bogart Me." (aka "Don't Bogart That Joint.") This twangy, mellowed-out steel guitar-powered ode to the green stuff arrived at the end of the psychedelic sixties and rode to fame on the saddle of classic road movie Easy Rider, appearing on the film's iconic 1969 soundtrack alongside unbeatable trips like Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild" and Roger McGuinn and Bob Dylan's "Ballad of Easy Rider." "Don't Bogart Me" uses the titular American slang ("Don't Bogart that joint, my friend / Pass it over to me") to describe the act of hogging a joint. "Roll another one / Just like the other one," urges lead vocalist and songwriter Lawrence "Stash" Wagner who co-wrote Don’t Bogart Me with Fraternity of Man's Elliot Ingbar for the band's self-titled LP of 1968.
