Nevada hard rockers Falling in Reverse have been on the frontlines of post-hardcore since starting out in 2008, but along the way have dipped their steel-toe boots in a melange of other styles, including pop-punk. Their fourth studio album Coming Home represented "a huge left turn," for the band. "It sounds like nothing we've ever done. Every song is very vibey, there's more feeling in it instead of a lot of metal," they said. They continued to push their sound into thrilling new places with the arrival of 2019 standalone single "Popular Monster," spooning a layer of rap into the mix with a candid rap-rock rager. Lead singer Ronnie Radke drew inspiration for the song from 2019 film Joker and chooses his platform to open up and bare all, tackling the various accusations that have been levelled against him as well as his experience of depression. The song was a hit, rising to the top of the US Mainstream Rock chart.
