American rock band Falling in Reverse has one of the most traditionally “rock and roll” origin stories, with the bulk of their debut album The Drug in Me Is You (2011) being written while frontman Ronnie Radke was incarcerated for a parole violation. The frontman would bring the harder-edged outlook from that experience to his songwriting, and one of the songs where this is most evident is in the album’s blistering third single “I’m Not a Vampire.” A propulsive hard rock song that combines elements of emo, punk rock, and metal, “I’m Not a Vampire” is a song about isolation, alienation, and self-destructive habits, comparing them to the fictional characteristics of the vampire archetype. “I’m Not a Vampire” was written by Ronnie Dadke along with Michael “Elvis” Basket and David Holdredge, and was produced by Michael Baskette. The song won Loudwire Magazine’s Cagematch Hall of Fame Award, and the song’s music video was named among Revolver Magazine’s Top 10 Best Music Videos of 2011. A new version of the song, featuring a full orchestra and choir, was released in 2021.
