Eric Church is an artist who definitely took advantage of his downtime during the Covid pandemic. The country singer converted a restaurant in North Carolina into a recording studio, gathered some songwriter friends and musicians, and challenged himself to write a song a day for nearly a month. "Hell of a View" is one of the 28 he came up with. It's a love song about two people following art instead of money, taking the road less traveled, and experiencing life without a net. The singer was out jogging when Casey Beathard and Monty Criswell came up with the first verse. Once Church heard the lyric "Caught your wings on fire when I smoked my Bronco tires out of town,” he was sold on the idea for the song. The three finished the “Hell of a View” that night.
