Born in 1956, Dwight Yoakam famously learned to play the guitar at the age of six and by the late 1980s was fully flying the flag for traditional country. He notched up three well-received albums during that period, beginning with Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc. in 1986 and taking in 1987's Hillbilly Deluxe—his second consecutive country number-one—and 1987's Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room. By the 1990s, he had his feet firmly under the table of modern country. Dwight Yoakam's second full-length album release of the 1990s, 1993's This Time was issued via the Frank Sinatra-founded Reprise Records and largely co-written by Dwight Yoakam, with the help of producers Dusty Wakeman and Pete Anderson. The title track embodies the album's variegated country-led instrumentation, which weaves in echoes of honky-tonk and steel guitar for a life-affirming mix. This Time reached number 25 on the US Billboard 200 and number four on the US Top Country Albums chart.
