'Like the pine trees lining the winding road' and 'the singing bird and the croaking toad,' Jim Croce 'has got a name' and he 'carries it with him like his daddy did.' On his 1973 single "I Got A Name" – which features lyrics from Norman Gimbel and music by Charles Fox – Jim Croce asserts his self-belief and self-worth backed by a blast of lilting folk-rock. The US singer-songwriter tragically died in a plane crash in Louisiana with five others on September 20, 1973 when he was just 30 and "I Got A Name" was included on his posthumous album of the same name. The song was used as the theme song for the 1973 sports drama film The Last American Hero and also appeared in various other movies, including the Ang Lee-directed 1997 drama film The Ice Storm, 2006 sports drama film Invincible, Quentin Tarantino's Oscar-winning Django Unchained (2012) and even computer-animated flick The Lego Ninjago Movie.
