Deftones' Chino Moreno harnesses the power of deep emotional rock on this smouldering cut from the band's sixth studio album Diamond Eyes. "Sextape" is rooted in sensuality and built from shoegaze textures that forgo the sandpaper screams of some of the band's well-known tunes, with crashing guitars that mirror the song's soaring hook: "The sound of the waves collide / The sound of the waves collide / The sound of the waves collide." The follow-up to Deftones' turmoil-fuelled fifth album Saturday Night Wrist (2006), Diamond Eyes introduced new bassist Sergio Vega to the band and was a commercial triumph for the US alternative metal heroes, taking them to their highest point on the US Billboard 200 since their 2003 self-titled fourth album. "Sextape" was one of four singles released from the album along with "Rocket Skates," "You've Seen the Butcher" and the title track. The LP was recorded with Nick Raskulinecz, known for his work with the Foo Fighters and other rock groups.
