Not to be confused with Corona's 1993 Eurodance smash of (nearly) the same name, "Rhythm of the Night" arrived eight years earlier, fashioned in classic 1980s synth textures and fronted by US R&B group DeBarge, who kickstarted their career with the track. "Rhythm of the Night" was written by multiple award-winning songwriter Diane Warren and released in February 1985 on the Motown label as the first single from the family singing group's fourth studio album of the same name; their breakthrough release that rolled in at a respectable number three on the US Billboard Hot 100, no doubt thanks to the magical touch of super-producer Richard Perry (Diana Ross, Martha Reeves, Harry Nilsson). "Rhythm of the Night" was written specifically for the 1985 martial arts movie The Last Dragon, which was produced by Rupert Hitzig for Motown's Berry Gordy, directed by Michael Schultz and is considered by many to be a cult classic.
