When musicians are faced with the task of covering a song, there’s a couple different ways they could go about it. They could choose to stick with the tried-and-true sound of the original, or they could bring their own sound into it. Sometimes, bands are able to pull off doing both simultaneously. Such is the case of American rock band Daughtry’s cover of “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),” a song by legendary rock group Journey. While still remaining very much within the sound and aesthetic of the original, Daughtry incorporate their heavier, more muscular, more aggressive approach, with roaring guitars heightening the song’s sense of drama.
