Written with his father-in-law Darren Hayes, the clue's in the name for this stripped-back acoustic confessional from Chris Stapleton, whose everyday struggles are softened by the existence and support of his family. "Tryna quit these cigarettes / I can't seem to kick em yet / Sister got laid off last fall / And I got high cholesterol / But I love my life / Man it's something to see / It's the kids and the dogs and you and me," he sings on the Americana-tinged song, his voice sounding both weary and full of love. "A Simple Song" was featured on Chris Stapleton's third studio album, From A Room: Volume 2, which he produced himself along with Dave Cobb and took the Number two spot on the US Billboard 200 at the time of its release in 2017. The LP also grabbed the Best Country Album nod at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, with the single "Millionaire" also nominated for Best Country Solo Performance.
