Chicago – one of the biggest rock groups of the '70s and '80s and one of the world's best-selling groups of all time, with more than 100 million records to their name – formed in their namesake city in 1968, originally calling themselves the Chicago Transit Authority in 1968, before cutting their name down to Chicago the following year and releasing their debut album. That same year, they received nominated for a Grammy Award for 1969 Best New Artist of the Year. By 1974 – two years before the release of their signature soft-rock hit "If You Leave Me Now," which would change their career forever – the band were at the top of their game, jamming out to jazz fusion, simply because they could. Written by Lee Loughnane and recorded for their album Chicago VII (1974), "Call on Me" reflects this laidback artistry, weaving in conga drums from Guille Garcia and featuring lead vocals from Peter Cetera that feel like a gentle breeze from the ocean.
