A distant relative of the infamous "King of the Wild Frontier" Davy Crockett, Charley Crockett expanded his blues-focused remit to cover the kind of hearty Americana terrain which makes up his DNA. He went from busking on the streets of New Orleans to releasing talked-about albums and proved his worth yet again with this honky-tonk interpretation of "Jamestown Ferry." Originally written by Mack Vickery and Bobby Borchers, “Jamestown Ferry” became a Top 10 country hit for Texas country star Tanya Tucker in 1972 and was featured on her debut album Delta Dawn. In 2018, fellow Texan singer Charley Crockett put his own spin on "Jamestown Ferry" by fleshing out the previously minimal sounding track with extra instrumentation but sticking close to the original nonetheless. "Jamestown Ferry" was included on Charley Crockett's 2017 album Lil G.L.'s Honky Tonky Jubilee, which also featured rewrites of Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, Loretta Lynn, Roy Acuff, and others.
