Unlikely associations abound in the world of pop music. Take, for instance, Canadian singer Céline Dion's feature on the soundtrack for the 2018 film Deadpool 2. Director David Leitch wanted a song that could serve as a connecting theme for the film's emotional arc and also act as a satire for the stereotypical epic love song in superhero movies. "Ashes," the resulting product, was written by Petey Martin, Jordan Smith, and Tedd T, and was offered to the Canadian diva, who accepted the proposal right away. It was officially released as a single on May 3, 2018, and was later included in the album Deadpool 2 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). Shortly after its release, the track reached the top of Billboard's US Dance Club Songs and hit Number 1 in Céline Dion's native Quebec. A remix by American DJ and producer Steve Aoki titled "Deadpool Demix" came out on May 25, as well as one by DJ Riddler in August of that year.
