"Hate My Heart" is one of the standout, rockier crowd-pleasers from Carrie Underwood's fun-loving ninth album Denim & Rhinestones, (2022) which saw her swap the weighty gospel of My Savior for a lighthearted batch of sing-a-along country-pop fizz. "Hate My Heart" embodies the carefree, glammed-up mood of Denim & Rhinestones in its first verse. "I'm free as a bird, no ties / Nothin' keepin' my wings from flyin' high / And going out on the town on a Saturday night," she sings, her soaring voice driving the spiky pop-rock song sky-high. However, the chorus takes the song in a darker direction when she confesses her true feelings ("I hate my heart right now / Underneath the covers in the dark right now / Wishin' I was sittin' in a bar right now / Two drinks in").
