Fronted by the larger-than-life leader and founder Larry Ernest Blackmon, New York City's Cameo were an inimitable band of funk and soul artists whose influence shaped a coterie of hip-hop and R&B stars, and brought the R&B chart-topper "Word Up!" into the world in 1986. Riding high on the success of their breakthrough 1979 hit I Just Want To Be,” and the follow-up single "Sparkle," the group continued to grip tight on the scene with their fifth album, Cameosis, which soared to number one on the R&B album charts and number 25 on the Billboard 200 album charts the following year. On closing track and quiet storm mainstay "Why Have I Lost You" – a new version of the same lonely heartbreaker that had been released on the band's second album, We All Know Who We Are – the group dish out a twinkling slow jam that ambles along with falsetto vocals and think layers of sensuality.

Cameo is in the top 5 greatest funk ballad bands of all time. This is one of their masterpieces from the chocolate city label disco era.
