As a blues-obsessed singer-songwriter, Boz Scaggs has always been a man of many hats, beginning his career with the more blues-based version of the Steve Miller Band and stepping out on his own in the 1970s to try his hand at proto-disco with Silk Degrees (1976). He took a break in the 1980s but returned in the 1990s to keep the blues-rock fires burning. For his thirteenth studio album Come on Home (1997), the blue-eyed soulman looked to the R&B and blues of his youth to deliver an earth-quaking selection of rock 'n' roll numbers. With plain-talking lyrics about a man who has just about had it ("I'm tellin' you baby you'd better change your ways / I'm tellin' you baby I mean what I say / Last time tellin you to stop that jive / Gonna find yourself outside"), "Sick and Tired" is nestled at the end of Come on Home and is as electrifying as they come; a little like Elvis on steroids. A bona fide rocker with a heart of soul.
