Black Sabbath embraced a bigger, heavier sound and came up with one of the finest blockbuster albums of their career, the foundational text of doom and stoner metal that is 1971's masterpiece Master of Reality. The sixth track on the album, "Lord of This World" is a billowing, riff-heavy attack armed with distortion, a dynamite guitar solo, and ominous wailing from the "Prince of Darkness" himself. Making a reference to Satan in the title, the song – which starts off slow before cracking wide open into a freewheeling jam – is rooted in an inherently nihilistic view of the world where people "choose evil ways" and greed instead of love, selling their souls for earthly things. Black Sabbath's third full-length album Master of Reality – which peaked at number five on the UK Albums Chart and number eight on the US Billboard 200 – sorted the wheat from the chaff and secured a diehard Sabbath fanbase that is still very much alive and well.
