By 2003, the Black Eyed Peas had fully transitioned from a critically acclaimed alternative hip-hop group to one of the best-selling pop-rap acts of their generation. After bringing singer Stacy Ann "Fergie" Ferguson into the fold in 2002, the band focused its efforts on reaching a wider audience through a more polished, radio-friendly sound. Elephunk, the resulting album, appeared in 2003 and spawned a slew of hit singles that went on to top the charts all over the world, including "Where Is the Love?," "Hey Mama," and the infectious party anthem "Let's Get It Started." Released as Elephunk's fourth single in June 2004, the latter is a re-worked version of the album's third track "Let's Get Retarded" and features a sample of the Spice Girls' "Wannabe." Written by William Adams, Allan Pineda, Jaime Gomez, Terence Yoshiaki, Michael Fratantuno, and George Pajon, Jr., "Let's Get It Started" reached Number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2005 Grammy Awards.
