Born to a second-generation Irish-American mother in 1903, Bing Crosby drew on his Irish roots for this top-notch rendition of hearty Irish-American staple, "Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ral (That's an Irish Lullaby)," casting a warm, twinkly glow with a fireside croon that effortlessly assumes the function of a lullaby. Penned by composer James Royce Shannon (1881–1946) for the Tin Pan Alley musical Shameen Dhu, "Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ral (That's an Irish Lullaby)" dates back to 1913 and was recorded by Bing Crosby in 1944 for the musical comedy-drama film Going My Way, which brought him an Oscar for his role as young priest Father Charles "Chuck" O'Malley (Bing Crosby). "Too-Ra-Loo-Ra-Loo-Ral (That's an Irish Lullaby)"—which went to number four in the US—enriches Bing Crosby's Irish-referencing repertoire, which veers from 1952 LP When Irish Eyes Are Smiling to a 2023 compilation, Bing Crosby’s Irish Songbook.
