Canadian country star Anne Murray opted for a country waltz on her 1980 track hit "Could I Have This Dance," which was featured in the 1980 romantic western Urban Cowboy and appeared on the soundtrack as well as becoming one of her trademark songs. "I'll always remember / The song they were playing / The first time we danced and I knew / As we swayed to the music / And held to each other / I fell in love with you," she begins on a song that serves as the perfect accompaniment to a lonely heart's drinking session or a late-night country drive to nowhere. Over forty years later, the song was brought to the ears of a modern audience when it popped up in the 2021 slasher film Halloween Kills, the sequel to 2018's Halloween and the twelfth installment in the Halloween franchise. Nova Scotia-born Anne Murray – who went on to pick up four Grammys, 24 Junos, three American Music Awards, three Country Music Association Awards, and three Canadian Country Music Association Awards – has been inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.
