Enter Andrew Gold's 'spooky, scary' funhouse of Halloween music at your peril. The multi-faceted multi-instrumentalist – who earned his keep during America's quiet, soft-rock revolution of the '70s – branched out into the world of film and TV music in the '90s (notably penning the "Thank You for Being a Friend" opening theme for hit show The Golden Girls – and from that jumping-off point made the leap to children's music. Rattling through bone-like xylophone and ghoulishly deep baritone vocals, seasonal novelty song "Spooky, Scary Skeletons" was among the treats on his 1996 novelty record Halloween Howls: Fun & Scary Music, but was later brought back to life and reborn as an Internet meme in the 2010s largely thanks to YouTube, prompting subsequent nicknames like "the Internet's Halloween anthem" and the "Halloween meme" of Generation Z. An EDM-flavoured remix of the track by Israeli-American remix musician Yoav Landau, known as The Living Tombstone, reared its head in 2013.
