"Tennessee Christmas" is a song originally written and released by American Christian music singer Amy Grant as part of her 1983 holiday LP, A Christmas Album. A collection of religious and secular standards, the album was recorded in 9 studios and released in September 1983. "Tennessee Christmas," the album opener, was penned by Amy Grant with her then-husband Gary Chapman during a drive from Nashville to Franklin, using the landscape and the light of the full moon as inspiration. Though it wasn't released as a single, "Tennessee Christmas" quickly became a contemporary holiday classic and made its way to country music group Alabama's 1985 LP, Alabama Christmas. Featuring a healthy dose of country twang and layered vocal harmonies, Alabama's rendition of "Tennessee Christmas" took the original idea and imbued it with an even bigger Southern feel. In 2016, Amy Grant re-recorded the song for her Christmas album of the same name.
