Black Sabbath tackle harrowing subject-matter on their gloomy, doomy "Electric Funeral," which depicts a nuclear holocaust over a backdrop of sludgy wah wah-laced riffs from Tony Iommi and Ozzy Osbourne's eerie vocal. "Reflex in the sky / Warn you you're gonna die / Storm coming, you better hide / From the atomic tide / Flashes in the sky / Turns houses into sties / Turns people into clay / Radiation, minds decay," shrieks Ozzy on this on-holds-barred highlight from Black Sabbath's career-defining 1970 album, Paranoid. "Electric Funeral" is among the LP's more politically minded tracks, also including anti-Vietnam war song "War Pigs/Luke's Wall" – which comes complete with added air-raid siren – while "Paranoid," which essentially paved the way for thrash metal, has yet to be knocked off its perch as one of mightiest metal songs ever created. And to think the band cooked the song up in just half an hour.
