“There Was Jesus” is a song by Zach Williams featuring Dolly Parton. Williams started his music career touring and recording as part of a southern rock band. In 2012, he became uncomfortable with the lifestyle of fronting a secular rock band and decided to perform music more in line with his newfound Christian beliefs. “There Was Jesus” is about the realization that even if he wasn’t aware Jesus was with him during some of the hard experiences of his life, he now is certain he wasn’t alone. “When the life I built came crashing to the ground / When the friends I had were nowhere to be found / I couldn't see it then but I can see it now / There was Jesus.” Williams was thrilled when Parton agreed to record the song with him. “There Was Jesus” took home the 2021 Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.
