In 2022, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Zach Bryan teamed up with his country-folk collaborator Charles Wesley Godwin for a nine-track EP called Summertime Blues, a melancholic collection of songs anchored by the line: "Gonna bury all my sorrow as the summertime passes by." Fifth track "Jamie" is drenched in grief and loss. This vulnerable, heart-wrenching story about a man who has lost the love of his life and turns to alcohol as a coping mechanism, will cut like a knife through your heart. Ultimately, the protagonist considers his own life meaningless as the song concludes: "'Cause this life ain't worth livin' if the love that you've been given / Is taken before you are." The stripped-back Summertime Blues helped Zach Bryan and Charles Wesley Godwin to a number seven footing on the US Top Country Albums chart while also making an appearance on the US Billboard 200 chart, where it landed at number 34.
