Originally written about coming to terms with unrequited love, American singer-songwriter Yebba Smith's "My Mind" gained a whole new meaning after the artist's mother committed suicide a week after her first performance. Armed with just a guitar and her soulful voice, Yebba first presented the song at the Sofar Sounds concert series in 2017. This performance caught the attention of British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who signed Yebba to his Gingerbread Man Records, a subsidiary of Warner Music Group. The song also spawned an accompanying video, which amassed millions of views across video-sharing platforms. Yebba's career took off after the release of "My Mind," landing features with Mark Ronson, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, and Stormzy, and winning a Grammy for her involvement on PJ Morton's "How Deep Is Your Love" in 2019. Three years later, Canadian duo DVBBS sampled Yebba's original SoFar Sounds performance for their single "Lose My Mind."
