Weird Al Yankovic has been capturing the zeitgeist of American pop culture since his debut in 1976, releasing a series of shticky parodies of hit songs by contemporary artists as well as quirky humorous material of his authorship. Following the massive success of the Top 40 single "Eat It," a parody of Michael Jackson's "Beat It," Weird Al Yankovic returned with "Dare to Be Stupid," an energetic synthpop pastiche in the style of Devo. Included in his 1985 album of the same name, the song was released as a double A-side single in 1986 along with Stan Bush's "The Touch" and appeared on the animated film Transformers: The Movie. Featuring Weird Al Yankovic's trademark bizarre lyrics and non-sequiturs, "Dare to Be Stupid" quickly became one of his most well-known songs, receiving compliments from Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh. An accompanying video based on Devo's "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" was also shot, featuring Weird Al Yankovic and his band in hazmat suits and swimming goggles.
