Wanda Jackson was a firebrand who flew the flag for female-fronted country and is lovingly known as the "Queen of Rockabilly.” She doesn't suffer any fools on this wild, tough-talking rock 'n' roll paean to resilient women. "Well a hard-headed woman, a soft-hearted man / Been the cause of trouble ever since the world began / Oh yeah, ever since the world began / A hard-headed woman is a thorn in the side of a man," she growls on "Hard Headed Woman.” A 12-bar blues written by African-American songwriter Claude Demetrius, "Hard Headed Woman" was first recorded by Elvis Presley as part of the soundtrack for his 1958 movie King Creole, and was included on the album of the same name. It was also later alluded to by Cat Stevens, who recorded a different song of the same name on his classic album Tea for the Tillerman. Wanda Jackson put her indelible stamp on the bop for her 1961 LP There's a Party Goin' On, with some mean and fast guitar-playing from Roy Clark.
