"I've Got the World on a String" is a 1932 jazz standard composed by Harold Arden and Ted Koehler for The Cotton Club Parade. The track was turned into a hit by Cab Calloway and was covered by numerous artists such as Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. In 1960, a young singer named Tony Bennett threw his hat into the ring with a silky-smooth rendition of Harold Arden's original version, included in his LP Tony Bennett Sings a String of Harold Arlen. "I've Got the World on a String" rapidly became a staple of Tony Bennet's repertoire, making an appearance on his live album Tony Bennett at Carnegie Hall: Complete Concert, originally recorded in 1962 but released in 1997. Bennett also featured the song on his 1992 Frank Sinatra tribute Perfectly Frank, with arrangements by Ralph Sharon. In 2000, Bennett recorded another live version with singer Diana Krall that showed up on his 2006 duets album, Duets: An American Classic.
