Jammin’ Me” is a song by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers from their 1987 album Let Me Up (I’ve Had Enough). Guitarist Mike Campbell came up with the track and gave it to Petty. The two had written many hits together including “Refugee”, “Here Comes My Girl”, and “You Got Lucky”. Petty hung onto the instrumental track for a while and sometime later, when he and Bob Dylan were writing lyrics, he thought of Campbell's track. This, then became the music for “Jammin’ Me”. The lyrics are about information overload. It mentions issues in the news like acid rain, El Salvador, and Iran, plus public figures like Steve Jobs, Joe Piscopo, and Vanessa Redgrave. The song hit #1 on the Rock Radio chart but not everyone loved it. Eddie Murphy was angry at being mentioned in the song. Petty later admitted he was embarrassed when he heard how upset Murphy was and explained that Dylan had written that particular line. The backing track for "Jammin' Me" is available with background vocals or as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
