"Rumors" is a song by San Francisco Bay Area-based funk and R&B group Timex Social Club. Included in their 1986 studio debut Vicious Rumors, their only album to date, "Rumors" helped the band led by Marcus Thompson get their footing in the music industry as they joined seminal hip-hop group Run DMC on their 1986 Raising Hell tour and opened for established urban music acts such as New Edition, Midnight Star, The S.O.S. Band, Kool & the Gang, and Jermaine Jackson. Including several references to the gossip surrounding well-known people in the music scene, "Rumors" proved to be the band's biggest hit, reaching Number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 1 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Dance Club Songs charts. The track also enjoyed great success abroad, charting in Canada, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Shortly after the success of "Rumors," inner tensions led to Timex Social Club's breakup in 1987. The band reformed briefly in 2011.
