The tough-talking track was included on the Irish rockers' third studio album Vagabonds of the Western World and was also released as a shorter single (the album track clocks in at over 5 minutes). "The Rocker" reached Number 11 in Ireland and has been covered by artists including UK heavy metallers Raven, who reframed the song for their 1994 album Glow, and fellow UK metallers Saxon, who paid homage to the song on their 2021 covers album, Inspirations. "The Rocker" is featured on the soundtrack for the 2013 biographical sports film Rush.
