Written by Abel Tesfaye, Max Martin, and Oscar Holter, "Take My Breath" was released as the album's first single on August 6, 2021. Featuring lyrics that describe a romantic encounter ending up in autoerotic asphyxiation, the single incorporated many elements from genres like disco, dance music, and synthwave, with a synth riff that echoed Donna Summer's "I Feel Love." The track debuted at Number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the Weeknd's thirteenth Top 10 entry on the US pop charts.
