Primarily delivered as a duet between the legendary Diana Ross, then-lead singer of the equally legendary Supremes, and Eddie Kendricks, co-founder of "My Girl" hit-makers The Temptations, "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" was a cover of a Dee Dee Warwick song from 1966 (who scored a Top 20 hit with the track that year) and rocketed to number two on both the Billboard pop and R&B chart (as well as topping the Cash Box singles chart). Released as a single in 1968 with a cover of Stevie Wonder's "A Place in the Sun" on the B-side, the track was included on the must-have 1968 album by the aforementioned supergroup, Diana Ross & The Supremes Join The Temptations, which comprised a flurry of delectable Motown covers, including "I Second That Emotion" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."
