Philly soul legends The Stylistics welcomed the start of a fruitful run of music-making in the '70s with this stunning R&B ballad. Written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed, "Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart)" features lushed-out production from Thom Bell, shimmering falsetto serenading from singer Russell Thompkins Jr., as well as the kind of misty-eyed lyrics that would come to define The Stylistics and similar soul-minded groups. Having formed just three years earlier in 1968 with a lineup of singers Russell Thompkins Jr., Herb Murrell, Airrion Love, James Smith and James Dunn, when they group charted in the Top 40 with "Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart)," their fate was sealed and they were riding high on the promise of future success. A few years later, Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross recorded a duet of the song which was released as a UK-only single from their duet album, Diana & Marvin, in 1974, and went to Number 25 on the UK Singles Chart.
