Raise your pint of shamrock-adorned Guinness to this beer-swilling drinking song from Celtic punk maestros The Rumjacks. The band were formed in Sydney in 2008 by frontman Frankie McLaughlin and bassist Johnny McKelvey, who later recruited guitarist Gabriel Whitbourne, drummer Anthony Matters, and Adam Kenny on banjo, mandolin, and bouzouki to join in the fun. Two years later, they bagged a viral hit with "An Irish Pub Song," the leading light from their 2010 debut album Gangs of New Holland. The track takes aim at the glut and commercialisation of so-called Irish-style pubs in Australia ("We'll raise the price o' beer a dollar / We'll make em wear a shirt & collar / We'll fly a bloody tri-colour / And call it an Irish pub") and its rowdy character feels perfectly primed for St. Patrick's Day; "An Irish Pub Song," was in 2016 named by Billboard as of the US's top 25 most popular St. Patrick's Day songs on YouTube.
