Kicking off with a gritty guitar riff and a shout-along chorus, "What I Like About You" became a signature hit for The Romantics after its release in December 1979. The track was co-written by band members Wally Palmar, Mike Skill, and Jimmy Marinos, who also delivered its distinct lead vocals. Though it only peaked at number 49 on the Billboard Hot 100, its catchy hooks and raw energy made it a staple of rock radio and sports arenas for decades. Released as part of their debut album The Romantics, the song was produced by Pete Solley and stood out for its blend of power pop and garage rock. Lyrically, "What I Like About You" is a straightforward celebration of attraction and charisma, delivered with playful repetition and a party-like vibe. The Romantics leaned into stripped-down instrumentation, handclaps, and call-and-response vocals to give it that infectious, feel-good sound. "What I Like About You" later found a second life in commercials and film soundtracks, cementing The Romantics as mainstays in the early 1980s new wave scene.

Having the isolated bass track for this version was SUPER helpful for me in getting my bassline together to play out. The original version is so super busy on bass - your bass player kept the high points and feel and simplified it some and just did a great job. THANKS!

Good sound; not quite the original, but better than many karaoke versions of this song.
