The title track of the fourth album by US indie-folk troubadours The Lumineers, "Brightside" finds the band in typically poetic mode as they vividly recount a wide-eyed hotel scene, "I was stranded in the bed / You were listening to The Dark Side of the Moon / I could barely see your eyes / Psilocybin in a hotel room," they sing in the second verse, doubling-down on the lysergic hallucinations in the pre-chorus: "And the light in your eyes / The waves on the ceiling". According to the band, "Brightside" was recorded in a single day and depicts a partner loving his other half even when times are hard. Brightside was released through Dualtone and Decca Records in January 2022 as the follow-up to third album III – which spanned three chapters and various fictional characters – and was primarily produced by Simone Felice and David Baron, who also worked as the record's mixer and engineer.
