The 2017 musical film The Greatest Showman is a fictionalized account of the story of P. T. Barnum's creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus, and the lives and relationships of its star attractions. Barnum is played by Australian actor Hugh Jackman in the film, who sings the rousing number “The Greatest Show,” the song that opens and closes out the film. The song’s pulsing rhythm and anthemic melodic, featuring singing from the ensemble cast during the chorus. It narrates Barnum’s arc in the film, from his dreams as a child through the events that cause him to lose sight of his goals. “The Greatest Show” was included in the soundtrack album to the film, and though it wasn’t released as a single, it still managed to become the 17th biggest song of 2018 in the United Kingdom. The rock band Panic! At the Disco recorded a cover version for the compilation album The Greatest Showman: Reimagined.
