Along with the likes of Christopher Cross, Kenny Loggins, and Toto, The Doobie Brothers were among the acts who gave yacht-rock a good name. The soft-rock VIPs formed in San Jose, California in 1970 and sailed through the decade with a string of seven albums rooted in their groove-laden boogie rock sound. But their fame really took off with the arrival of eighth studio album Minute by Minute. Released in 1978, and produced by the band's long-running producer Ted Templeman, the LP was propelled into the spotlight thanks to the Grammy-winning hit "What a Fool Believes." However, that's not to say the horns-infused harmonies of "Dependin' on You," co-written by Michael McDonald and Patrick Simmons, weren't as equally enjoyable. In fact, "Dependin' on You," which was released as the third single from Minute by Minute, still managed to land comfortably at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
