The Chicks (formerly The Dixie Chicks) knew they had their work cut out for them when they decided to tackle this country music classic about absolute devotion to one's partner, but they applied their signature sound to the song while retaining its message and original spirit. The Chicks' recording of "Stand by Your Man" was included in the 1998 tribute compilation album, A Tribute to Tradition, a benefit album that served as a fundraiser for a retirement center in Nashville, Tennessee. The album featured several modern country stars paying tribute to legends that came before them. A Tribute to Tradition would go on to peak at Number 36 on the US Top Country Albums chart.
