A flaming comet of blues-soaked rock, "Lo/Hi" exudes Black Keys' trademark sound for a song that finds frontman Dan Auerbach bemoaning his singledom after being rejected by a lover. "Nobody to love you / Nobody to care / If you got nobody to hug you / No one to answer," he growls in the pre-chorus, drowing his sorrows in the second verse: "One at a time, get in line for the masquerade / Drink 'til you cry and you're lyin' in the mess you made." "Lo/Hi" was released as a single in March 2019 – the lead single from the band's ninth album Let's Rock, which saw them take on the production themselves rather than collaborating with long-term producer Danger Mouse – and shot to the top of all four Billboard rock airplay charts simultaneously, making The Black Keys the first band to achieve such a victory. At the time of its release, "Lo/Hi" – written by band members Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney – marked the band's first new material in five years.
