The Alan Parsons Project’s 1977 album I Robot is a testament to the British progressive rock group’s ambition and creativity. A concept album exploring philosophical themes about artificial intelligence and the ethics of robotics, drawing conceptually from the work of Isaac Asimov, I Robot was only the band’s second album and it already established their voice, tone, and aesthetics very clearly. Originally intended to more explicitly tie with Asimov’s work, it was later modified to be more generally about robots due to a rights dispute. “Don’t Let it Show,” released as the second single from the album, is a song about hiding away the emotions and the tiredness that comes from everyday life, essentially taking one more step into the life of an automaton. “Don’t Let it Show” was written by Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson and produced by Alan Parsons himself. In latter years, the track was covered by Pat Benatar for her 1979 album In the Heat of the Night.
