A ringing telephone and muffled voices introduce this soft-rock odyssey from The Alan Parsons Project, "Days Are Numbers (The Traveller)," which was featured on the UK band's eighth studio album, the gold-certified Vulture Culture, released in 1984 (or early 1985 in various countries) via the Arista label and reaching Top 10 in continental Europe. With vocals steered by the colourfully monikered Chris Rainbow, who sets a nomadic scene from the off ("The traveller is always leaving town / He never has the time to turn around / And if the road he's taken isn't leading anywhere / He seems to be completely unaware"), the song depicts an eternal drifter who floats from place to place and can't seem to stay still: "The traveller awaits the morning tide / He doesn't know what's on the other side / But something deep inside of him / Keeps telling him to go / He hasn't found a reason to say no."
