Tejano supergroup Texas Tornados is often credited with modernizing Tex-Mex music, incorporating elements from country, rock and roll, R&B, and Mexican folk music into their songs. With some of the genre's most legendary figures among their ranks, including Flaco Jiménez, Augie Meyers, Doug Sahm, and Freddy Fender, the group quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the regional music scene. Albums like their 1990 studio debut Texas Tornados and 1991's Zone of Our Own entered the Top 50 of the Billboard 200 and even earned the band a Grammy for Best Mexican/American Performance. Though not as successful as its predecessors, their third LP Hangin' on by a Thread (1992) featured the single "Guacamole," a classic Tejano track that made extensive use of food-related innuendos to great comedic effect. Written by Augie Meyers, Freddy Fender, and Paige Levy, "Guacamole" remains one of the group's most well-known songs, especially among their Latino fanbase.
