Nigerian singer and songwriter Tems earned a Grammy nomination for her breakthrough appearance on Wizkid's 2020 Billboard top 10 single "Essence," (remixed by Justin Bieber) before finding her own voice on her 2020 debut self-penned EP For Broken Ears, which was produced by Spax, Omeiza, and Tejiri Akpoghene. Self-produced alongside Omeiza, "Free Mind" points her in the crisp, bass-boosted R&B pop direction as she pours her captivating vocals into the song's underlying themes of fame, escapism, and peace. She wants a break from those red-eyed 5AM starts but there's something deeper going on, too.
