In June 2019, Taylor Swift penned a lengthy Tumblr post calling out her former label, Big Machine Label Group, after it was revealed they had sold the master rights for her first six albums to heavyweight music manager Scooter Braun. A few months later, the US supertar announced her plan to take back control by re-recording her first six albums in order to reclaim legal ownership. "Don't You (Taylor's Version)" is the first stop on the path to empowerment, a song which was featured on her second album Fearless (2008) and is now included on her newly recorded version, Fearless (Taylor’s Version). "Don't You (Taylor's Version)" recounts the tale of Taylor Swift bumping into her ex, the painful emotions that come to the surface following the meeting. Heartbroken, she wonders why her ex doesn't feel the same, however, ultimately – in true Taylor Swift fashion – she pledges to move on with her life.
