“Sing for the Day” is a song by the American rock band Styx. It was the second single released from their 1979 album Pieces of Eight. The song was written by vocalist/guitarist Tommy Shaw. The name Hannah is used throughout the lyrics. Shaw explained that he used that name to represent all their female fans who had supported the band through the years. “Hannah you're with me in spirit wherever I go / To the ends of the earth and all points between high and low / Each night by the stage you appear as you are / The ever intangible child, ageless and timeless as Dorian Grey.’” Years later in 1987, he named his newborn baby Hannah.
