Minnie Riperton famously stepped in to provide backing vocals for this harmonica-streaked ballad from Stevie Wonder, who builds worlds of romantic fantasy on "Creepin'" across four minutes. The song is from Stevie Wonder's seventeeth studio album Fulfillingness’ First Finale, (1974) which saw him follow up the socially conscious Innervisions with a relationship record. The LP was released shortly after a car accident that almost took Stevie Wonder's life while he was on tour in North Carolina in August of 1973. Fulfillingness’ First Finale was Stevie Wonder's second album to make it to the top of the Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart, where it hung around for two weeks, while it also reached number one on the Billboard Soul LPs chart, where it spent nine non-consecutive weeks. At the 17th Annual Grammy Awards, the album won in three categories, giving Stevie Wonder his second consecutive win for Album of the Year among other accolades.
