Seventeen years before Ed Sheeran's "Galway Girl" took the charts by storm and Steve Earle was busy penning his own semi-autobiographical country-folk jam of the same name. Sliding into view with traditional Irish-sounding mandolin, fiddle, and concertina, the rollicking song sees Steve Earle fall head over heels for the titular protagonist, but she eventually scuppers and leaves him with "a broken heart and a ticket home". One thing's for certain, however: "'Cause I've traveled around, I've been all over this world / Boys, I ain't never seen nothing like a Galway girl." "The Galway Girl"—which made an appearance in 2007 rom-com P.S. I Love You—was recorded with Irish musician Sharon Shannon and featured on Steve Earle's ninth studio album Transcendental Blues (2000), which went to number 66 on the US Billboard 200 chart and was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Contemporary Folk Album category.
